The law firm of Lipsitz & Ponterio, LLC announces that right before the start of a jury trial in Buffalo, New York, it obtained over 2.5 million dollars for the family of a former millwright/pipefitter who passed away at age 72 from mesothelioma, an asbestos-caused cancer.  The family brought suit against various companies that previously manufactured and sold asbestos-containing products and equipment to various Plants in Western New York.  Due to the confidential nature of this settlement, the names of the settling parties and amounts contributed by each of these companies cannot be disclosed.

Beginning in 1967, our client was exposed to asbestos-containing products and equipment during the course of his employment as a millwright at the West Valley Nuclear Plant.  From 1969 to 2002, our client changed employment and became a pipefitter at the Allied Chemical/Buffalo Color Plant where he was again exposed to asbestos-containing products and equipment as a pipefitter during the 1969 through 1980 timeframe.

In February 2014, our client became symptomatic with shortness of breath and thereafter was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma, a lethal asbestos-caused cancer.  “We are particularly proud of the fact that this family’s asbestos case was settled within approximately one year from the filing of their lawsuit to its conclusion,” said Attorney John P. Comerford, trial counsel for our client.  Mr. Comerford, together with his law partner, Michael A. Ponterio, Esq., presided over jury selection when this case was settled.
